How to Mentally Reset for the New Year

Introduction by Host: Dr. Gee

2023 is almost over! As we get ready for 2024, it is important to take a breath and examine how the past year has gone. Have you succeeding in accomplishing your goals? What has held you back in certain areas of your health? These are all things to consider when we mentally reset. Today, we will discuss five key tips to effectively reset our mindsets before 2024.

Point 1: Reflect on the Past Year

We need to sit back and look at the goals we wanted to accomplish this year. What worked well? What did not work at all? Who helped you succeed and who held you back? Pause, and take some time to look back on your year.

Point 2: Have a Mental Detox

There are some things that happened this year that were not good for you. As we move into the next year, you have a choice: take those bad things with you, or leave them behind. As you reflect, make a comprehensive list of the things that held you back from achieving your goals. If you do not make these mental changes, progress will not be made.

Point 3: Be Grateful

On the other hand, there are things that happened this year that are worth celebrating. You may not have achieved your goals, but look back on the steps that you did achieve. There are also people who have helped you along your way this year. What did they accomplish so you could pursue your goals? Take some time to thank them as well. As you reflect on the past year, celebrate your progress, your achievements, and your community.

Point 4: Clarify Goals & Aspirations

We don’t always need to set new goals at the start of a new year. Sometimes, it is more helpful to adjust our current goals. As you reflect, take some time to consider if you will keep the goals that you had, adjust the goal in light of new circumstances, or if it is time to move on to a new goal entirely.

Point 5: Prioritize and Organize

When striving for a goal, it is important to have your steps laid out. What do you need to do first? What is something that you can save until later? As you wrap up your mental reset, think of the steps that you need to take to reach your goal, and then order them in the most effective way possible.

Summary/Closing Thoughts

It is important to take some time at the end of the year to reflect on the past. How have your goals progressed? What needs to change, and what needs to be celebrated? What needs to be adjusted and what needs to be given a higher priority? Work through a mental reset, and give your goals the chance to thrive in the upcoming year!
