Finding Peace in Chaos

How can we find peace from within? The times we live in are chaotic and uncertain. Times before us may have been more difficult, but that does not diminish our current struggles. Starvation, poverty, job loss, sickness, and many more ills affect us as we go about our lives. Despite this, we can still find peace in our environments.

Here are some tips to find peace in the chaos of life:

1. Control/Manage What You Are Consuming

The information that we consume is very important. The information we consume is very important. As the saying goes, ‘Garbage in, garbage out.’ If we just focus on the bad news (wars, hunger, political news, etc.), that influences how we think. The movies we watch, the products we invest in, and the conversations we have impact how we see the world.

2. Find Your Boundaries and Protect Them

We need to be aware of the things we are willing to compromise on, and be extra aware of what we will not compromise on. Know your no-go zones. Know what work you are willing to do to achieve your goals. Know what work you do not want to do. If you do not have these set boundaries, you will be pushed around by the winds of life and end up in a more stressful environment than you otherwise would have.

3. Building on Your Strengths

A lot of things are troublesome, but what are you good at? Can you build on it? Are you in a position to learn new skills? A typical example in the modern day is social media. So many online marketing strategies emphasize social media or other online presences. If you cannot learn how to use social media, you will be left behind.

4. Becoming Adaptive

There are many things in life to adapt to. Our lives before COVID look very different to life post-COVID. We can’t keep doing the same things we have been doing for the past five years. If a past strategy is not working with your current season of life, can you change your approach and continue to grow? Adapt to this new season of life and thrive!

5. Get Support to Manage Your Stress

The fact that you know your boundaries doesn’t mean you can keep them. You need a support group (friends, work, counselor if needed) in order to keep your boundaries secure. Seek support and surround yourself with great people. People who want the same things you want, people who want peace, who want to thrive in life. Those are the people you want to surround yourself with.

We are not all the same person, but you don’t need to have identical interests in order to support each other. Spouses may have separate interests. The husband may be interested in sports, while the wife is interested in the Kardashians. Despite their different interests, they share the same house and are affected by the same events. You have to be conscious of the attitudes of those around you in order to support each other.
