Do Not Be Afraid to Succeed

We all have things that we want to accomplish in life, but why do we not take the steps necessary to succeed? For many people, the answer is fear. We do not know how long we have on Earth, so we cannot afford to let our fear dictate our dreams. You have to start taking steps NOW. So, let’s discuss how can we overcome fear while on our success journey?

Point 1: Les Brown’s Illustration – The Stray Dog with No Teeth

There is nothing to be afraid of, except for fear. We often fear the unknown. Les Brown, a prominent motivational speaker, tells a story that illustrates this well. A man has a neighbor with a large dog. Every day, this dog chases the man as he walks by his neighbor’s house. One day, the man had enough of running and decided to face the dog. The next day, when the dog began to chase him, he turned around and prepared to fight. That’s when he discovered something: the dog had no teeth. All this time, he was running away from a dog who could not bite him. How many times have you run away from something that you know nothing about. Could it be that you are afraid of nothing?

Point 2: Fear Robs Us of Time

You cannot let fear drive your life. Life is short. You do not know what time we have left, so why would you let fear of the unknown stop you from pursuing your dreams? You can accomplish so much, if you will dedicate time to it. Dedicate some time to learning about yourself, to prayer, and to taking steps to your goals.

Point 3: Self-Confidence

The opposite of fear may be self-confidence. You may have low self-confidence because you have not built yourself up. Confidence will come, but it does not just appear with no effort on your part. Think about steps you can take to increase your self-confidence right where you are.

You also may have to take steps on your own. It is always better to have people around you, cheering you on, but that is not always an option at the start. You may be the only one who can encourage yourself, and that is ok. Keep pressing forward. You never know what is ahead unless you try.

Point 4: Write Your Goals Down

It is important to write down your goals. It is good to have a reminder of what you have already accomplished and what you still need to do. Once you write them down, think of ways you can build yourself towards achieving your goals. What can you do to get those goals moving?

Point 5: Sharing Success

Once you have gained success and overcome your fears, share your journey with others. Do not just keep your story to yourself. You do not have to share with the whole world or post it online. It could be as small as sharing with a friend who has a similar struggle. The more you share and the more you give, the more you receive in return.
